Center Introduction

The International Teaching and Language Center was established to promote and enhance the planning and development of teaching English as a second language. The Center aims to enhance and strengthen language proficiency and instruction while creating an atmosphere which will widen the global and cultural perspective of teachers, university staff, students, and language enthusiasts alike. Shu-Te University offers university-wide language learning courses including Freshman English and various elective courses for Non-English Majors. Numerous events, competitions, speeches, guest speakers and testing are offered to all students throughout the semester.

The Center’s organization

  1. The director, who is assigned and entrusted to lead the Center’s overall growth and success, assists in overlooking and assisting the faculty members and other staff members to plan, coordinate and carry out the goals of the Center. The term of office is three years, after which an evaluation will determine the continuation of the director’s tenure.
  2. Four modules are involved: Foreign Language Teaching Methodology, Chinese Language Teaching Methodology, Language Certification courses and Bilingual Language courses. Each division head oversees his or her designated division and reports all progress and situations to the director.

Each division’s duty is as follows

  1. The Foreign Language Teaching Methodology Division is responsible for the university-wide foreign language curriculum planning and teaching  and Chinese and Foreign Language related certification preparation and examination.
  2. The Chinese Teaching Methodology Division is responsible for the university-wide Chinese curriculum planning and teaching.
  3. The Bilingual Resources Division is responsible for planning, promotion and implementation of bilingual courses and assess credits determining degrees and certificates for students.

The Center’s general and primary duties are as follows

  1. Managing the university-wide Chinese course planning, curriculum coordination and development and providing education and instruction in practical use of modern foreign languages to prepare students for the modern global workplace.
  2. Offering counseling services to students in selecting core and related elective language courses.
  3. Offering counseling services to students in achieving high testing scores and earning certificates.
  4. Creating and publishing language-related teaching materials and developing various language teaching software.
  5. Establishing additional language learning courses as needed in the modern workplace to provide up to date information for students.
  6. Refining the university’s website access for international students and faculty.
  7. Coordinating each college on campus to promote English and bilingual bachelor’s programs.
  8. Handling additional affairs relevant to the center’s goals.

Our Location

The Shu-Te University (STU) is located at the center of Shensheui university town at Yanchao District, Kaohsiung City. It is neighbored by four other universities: National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology, National Kaohsiung University of Applied Science, National Kaohsiung Normal University, and I-Shou University. The University resides closely by two freeways and Ci-Nan highway, and it is on the way to many Kaohsiung-Pingtung nature attractions. The STU has provided the shuttle buses to/from the Kaohsiung International Airport, the Zuoying Station of the Taiwan High Speed Rail, and the Kaohsiung Station as well as the Nanzi Station of the Taiwan Railways Administration.
